I have a few SME S2 headshells, and found that replacing one SME headshell with another SME would throw off the VTA of the cartridge. I never determined if this was just one bad sample or if there were consistency problems with the SME headshells. Anyway, I changed over to the grey headshell which you can see in the photo.It's actually the headshell from a Kenwood KP7010, which is equivalent to the KD990 common in the US. I had one of these turntables when I lived in Japan and bought a few extra headshells.
I like it with the SME becaues aesthetically it matches (same colour as the counterweight) but also because it has a level top surface on which a bubble level can be placed to adjust azimuth. It's a bit heavier: 12g compared to the 8g of the SME headshell.
