But, there 'were' quite a few which had VERY high compliance. Denon's 305, and 306, and the FR1's. Further there are quiet a few modern ones which have low VTF and can work quite well in lower mass arms.Denon's top models do tend to be quite high in compliance.
Lastly, a good way to get a SME/3009/S2 to work with most current MC's is to put the FD200 damping pot on it.
