Many click and pop filters don't alter any samples except the ones containing the noise. This is pretty much non-destructive because the reconstruction of a dozen or so sequential samples is far less audible than the spike. You need to monitor the process to make sure it doesn't go chopping off the wrong things, though. A good piece of software won't modify the waveform overall, and will give you the option to hear only what it's removing.-Bry
