I consider digital only a storage format and prefer to retain as much of the original as possible. Digital processing can clean up some bad noise but with a loss of much good. Vinyl recorded straight to disc retains the most true reflection of the original and isnt that what your after? Why try to take something out of a recording after you put it in there? If the source is noisy then clean it up to reduse the noise and if there is a small amount of noise after a good cleaning or 2 so be it. Record cleaning is not hard or time consumming if you really care about your recording quality. I have often been surpized by how well some old thought to be to rough to record albums have cleaned up with just a bit of effort. When all else fails try finding a better copy or just get the cd release if your source is still not up to your standards. Dont muck up good analog with digital processing.
