the analog to digital recording process amplifies every defect on a record. Maybe you're listening past them on record, or maybe it's something to do with the rolloff frequencies not being engaged when you play back a digital copy, or maybe the pops are actually causing clipping, I don't know. What I do know is that any record in less than NM needs to be cleaned up when making a needledrop, or it is unlistenable.
