RE: Technically, do you need more antiskate for 45 rpm records?

No, you should not need more antiskating at 45-rpm compared to 33.3-rpm. You can prove this by playing a test record with a blank ungrooved surface. Set antiskating so your tonearm remains stationary on the blank surface, then switch the speed to 45-rpm. Your tonearm should still remain stationary at either speed using the same antiskate setting.

I've done this test on my Technics SL-1200 turntable many times. The SL-1200 has push-button speed switching, which makes this test very easy.

I'm not suggesting that a stylus in the groove should require the same antiskate setting as a stylus on a blank ungrooved surface. This test just proves that frictional force does not change when platter speed is changed.
