Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

I've been using cryoed Acme inlet connectors (older style) on my digital player and balanced power conditioner, and found them to be a big improvement over "stock". However, I'm curious to try the Furutech gold plated versions as they might be better suited for my system (digital source, tubed linestage, SS amp). I've liked the changes brought by the gold Oyaide outlets (SWO-GX), which is in part what's motivating the curiosity for the gold IEC inlets vs. the Acme silver. Can anyone comment on the relative merits of the FI-09 vs. FI-10 Furutech inlets? The FI-09 apparently uses a copper base, while the FI-10 is brass (subsequent plating is similar I think), and the FI-09 has a more robust casing than the FI-10 (both made of the same nylon/fiberglass as best I can tell). The FI-09 has a better pressure plate for the screw connections, but if I used the FI-10 I'd likely solder the connections so that aspect of the comparison may not be fruitful. Downsides of the FI-09 are the price and the fact that the IEC "hole" in the chassis would need to be enlarged. However, I'd endure both of these issues if the FI-09 is likely to be superior.
Also, the Furutech literature notes their "alpha" process which entails "super cryogenic and demagnetizing" treatment. Given this cryo treatment, is there value in getting a re-cryoed one from somewhere like cryo-parts vs. a "stock" one from somewhere like partsconnexion?
FWIW I'm using an Elrod EPS-3S to feed the line conditioner and a Purist Aqueous Aniversary w/ Oyaide P/C-079 connectors on the digital source - factors that may influence the choice between getting the gold or rhodium plated inlets vs. staying with the Acme silver ones.
TIA for your advice/opinion.
