That way tightening the screws doesn't cause the loop to expand out from under the screw head, a problem I have encountered in the past.

The solid wire should be curled around the terminal screw with the open end of the wire in the same direction the screw tightens, clockwise. This way as the screw is tightened the the screw head causes the eye of the wire to stay closed.

Use of a pair of needle nose pliers to preform the eye of the wire can also benefit. After the wire is installed around the screw the eye can be further closed around the screw with the needle nose pliers if desired.
