I used flat black spray paint with a large solvent load, and backed off a LOT more than the recomemnded spraying distance, and got a VERY flat black finish, BUT when handled, it got "shiny" spots, which could then be touched up with some more 'long-distance' spraying.
If you want a gloss finish on plastic, then as others have suggested, sand the markings off, leave the outside surface of the tube slightly rough, that is, DO NOT polish it to a smooth or glossy outer finish, and then spray with spray paint intended for use with plastic. You may have to lay down more than one layer, and let it dry thoroughly between coats. Spray SLIGHTLY closer than recomended (or at the minimum recommended distance), but avoid laying down too heavy a coating at one time so it does not run or sag.
Try one tube before processing them all, go through the whole process with just one tube, and if it needs some adjusting, you got the rest of them to do it on. If your tube usage is so tight that you do not have any spares, place the initial prototype tubes in the middle, where they are less obvious, or sand them and start over.
