Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |
|
After 8 hours of reading archives in AA I have found everything I need to build these roomlenses. What I am curious about before building them is any tips or comments from actual users of the DIY or original Argent Roomlens. Especially since it has been years since this topic has come up. I will be building 3 of them based on JR's recipe, with the following exceptions: 1) fiberglass filling as the originals, 2) 2" thick wood base, 3) Brass adjustable cones as footers. Please note, because of WAF, I am very limited in room tuning aids or products. These roomlenses I think if I make look good, I can get her to accept.
Info on the following would be extremely helpful:
* Paint or prep work techniques used to provide the nicest finish for the tubes?
* Placement suggestions when there is a 61" DLP TV in between the main speakers
* Placement when the room is rectangular with three walls, One side does not have a wall, it is completely open to the rest of the house. Can provide pictures for clarification.
This is a very inexpensive project (I already have the spare brass cone footers, so about $80-$90 for three complete roomlenses), that is why I want to try it. But want to get it right the first time. Reason or goal for building these roomlenses is to have the ability to experiment with: 1) center focus, 2) Soundstage, 3) See how they may effect or help tune the room for a more realistic or pleasurable listening experience.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, comments or ideas!
Best Regards,
Chris
