Speakers are best, in my experience, isolated from the floor, especially a suspended wooden floor. An amazing clean up in the bass.
If you isolate a component from the floor then you have trapped any internal vibration within it. If you can also deal with that then you are really getting somewhere. Nearly all solutions involve a trade off and this is another example.
Personally I wouldn't look to mass for any major solutions, but controlled mass is capable of helping in certain circumstances.
