Thanks. I have both an analog and DSS scope but not enough knowledge about tuner circuitry to effectively troubleshoot.

What I have read about the FM-3 is that after any tube change an alignment is strongly recommended.

I have a couple new JJ 12AX7s on the way. So I experiment with replacing tubes, if that does not help I will test the carbon comp resistors, and finally expect to do an alignment.

I have two Sony XDR-F1HD tuners, one heavily modded, and neither has the slightest hiss.

Problem is they sound boring, no life or air to the music...
