We lived about a block from Svetlana factory and three members of my family worked there. My first visit there was probably in 1960, when they took us, school kids, there to show us some of the production.
Amazingly, back then all raw glass tubing for the vacuum tubes envelopes was done by hand - there was a sizable group of glass blowers, and they way they did it was mesmerizing. Also there they made the fancy, complex envelops for large tubes.
Oops... forgot my future wife... I guess that makes it four of us. :)
Eventually most of the tube production stopped, and the factory switched to solid state.
