Might be me misunderstanding what dark sounding means. Was thinking rca more due to the warmer sound they offer. 12bh7 tubes tend to be reasonably priced so it might come down to trial and error.
My tube amp can uses either 12bh7 or the 6dj8 family of tubes. Tried a bunch of the 12bh7 before moving onto the 6dj8 types. Currently using the 7308 (part of the 6dj8 family) and love them.
Sorry to ramble off of original poster question my suggestion is research the 12bh7 and find a seller that will work with you and except returns.
