In my experience, the GE 12bh7 had that characteristic, having used it in my Quicksilver monos awhile back. The GE was a bit thick, creamy and smooth. I found some Amperex 12bh7 that were just the opposite. Light, clean, clear sounding.
Amperex worked well in the Quicksilvers.
GE was a little too much of a good thing.
