Larry,Think about building an "El Cheapo" integrated amp. It's a tightwad's dream, good performance at very modest cost.
SS line stages can be OK, IF they are surrounded by tubes. That means a tubed phono stage and a tubed DAC as sources. That sort of set up aint low cost.
BTW, I too am a member of the Geezer's Brigade. Proper aging IMPROVES many things. ;~)
