I am 64 and retired, handy with soldering iron, and understand enough about electronics not to get hurt. I would love to build a kit with p-t-p wiring, and the tube amps seem to be much less complicated than pc board ss equipment. I feel I could follow a schematic, acquire parts, and build and amp, but would have trouble trying to build the chasis. So a kit is an attractive option, and a vintage unit would also be if I could determine what needed to be repaired/replaced.With my hearing loss, I am not sure if I can hear the difference between SS and tube, mush less between PP and SET. So I want to start inexpensively, maybe a PP amp with my SS pre-amp, and if I can hear enough improvement, then build an SET. I need to explore all the links you have provided and do as much learning as I can, then probably ask for more advice. I need to go slowly, small purchases are better for me than a large one.
Thanks...Larry
