No, the KT88s don't offer more power, just a different sound. The amp only uses two pairs, so trying different tubes is (relatively) cheap. The KT88s may work in the SE version, but I would check that they bias the same as the 5881, as I did, before using them. Since they are run at lower percentage of max plate dissipation, I would expect the KT88s to last a good long while (well over the normal ~2000 hours). Since the KT88 has a lower anode impedance, the speaker damping is better, though that might not be a big deal with your Quads.
