it's gotta be a good active Pre to better a passive but then passives will only work well if a) you have sufficient overall system gain, b) you have a sufficiently low OP impedance and high enough input impedance, and c) you choose the right attenuator resistance. Great if you can get a 10:1 impedance ratio on both sides of the passive (or thereabouts).Rgds,
