If the benchmark is the Mullard M8137 old logo, what current production ......

Hi,

Sorry if this is a well-discussed topic, but here goes anyway...

If the ultimate choice for preamp tube is the Mullard M8137 'old logo' 12ax7, but they now cost way too much .... what current-production tube has a chance of competing... ?

Anyone finding any quiet, clean, reasonably extended 12ax's that have any of that old-mullard vibrancy & presence ?

(and don't cost 80-90-100 bucks per tube NOS.. )
