Something I have been told is don't buy designer dish washers. Why? They have shorter production runs so that quality control suffers. Don't buy first year model cars, again they haven't been produced long enough to work out the kinks. Demand for tubes is not what it was in the 50's. These were top end products demanded by top end company's and the military. Quality therefore was paramount and production runs were huge. That is most certainly no longer the case. Toss in the general state of manufacturing quality today compared to 40 years ago and you now know why old tubes are GENERALLY better than new tubes.
