Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

Re: No problem - cheers! (nt)

I hope you are familiar with the jargon or the joke is on me. Here goes anyway, getting burned means ending up with a poor tube. This happens all the time with tubes that test "good", then make the proviso that your tester (I own 2,) will be callibrated differently so if there is descrepancy thats your problem. Your cash gets burned not you. When I cook well that's a different story.
The Ge is abundant and in lower demand, for other reasons as well, such that you can, more readily pick up a decent pair (Triple Mica Black plate only if I were you) for a reasonable price. I just had much better luck finding good examples.
Try that route with Sylvania you pay plenty and still end up with garbage. Many have no makings left, they really did use a very easily rubbed off trace of gold for lettering on some. All you may see is an acid etched 5751. If you buy those which are discounted a little. Make sure you have a buddy who knows what they are, square getter RCA's can fool you at first.
Finally Yes it is true, this is a quintessential American tube, despite Siemens. They didn't make any other old production triple micas in Europe. If you see anything labeled as a 5751 from the old time greats like Telefunken etc. they are extremely suspect don't buy them.
