Re: Fisher 400 6HS6 vs. 6BA6(?)

They also redesgined the IF section on the 6BA6 model...four stages vs three. So there is also another 6AU6 in the later model.

Knowing that Fisher was a big company...I would not be surprised if had something to do with cost. They were already using the 6BA6 in several other models...and when your buying tubes by the 1,000's...several cents saving per tube (espiecially is 1960's dollars) makes a difference.

Utilizing an already heavily stocked tube (I am 98% sure Fisher did not use the 6HS6 in anything else) probably offset the cost somewhat of adding an additional IF stage and 6AU6.

Costs did play out in Long Island City...the designer of the 400-CX2 claimed that he designed it with a headphone jack...and this was nixed over the extra $1.00 or so it would have cost in production.

Or there is some unexplained reason...maybe the designer of the second version hated the letter S!!!
