You wrote, "I really should just take a meter to the sockets and make some measurements." If you intend to measure voltages across the unoccupied socket, you will find none. You need to measure the voltage across the plate resistor with a tube in place in order to calculate how much current the tube is drawing (whichever tube you are using at the time). Current will be equal to the value of the plate resistor X voltage. Then measure the voltage right across the anode (plate) and cathode of the tube itself, which will tell you the "plate voltage". Then plate voltage X plate current will tell you the plate dissipation, in Watts. Ideally, you don't want to exceed the recommended max plate voltage OR the max plate dissipation.
