Yes it is only running about 1 ma in that circuit (1.3 I think when I measured it), but the thing is, other 12AU7's (i tried about 4 different brands) sound fine, so the Mullard is definitely less bright.I think it's a fair comparison as they are all running under the same conditions. If you could point me to where Mullard specify a lower limit on bias current, I'd agree about the 'misuse' :-)
