It could very well be that the preamp is neutral, i.e., simply passing along what you feed it. So, if the CD player and records themselves sound bad, the preamp is merely letting you know. Or, it could be an amp/speaker/room mismatch.I've tried Mullard long plates, short plates, and box plates in a variety of gear. Never could I get them to make the associated gear sound harsh.
