Which "Mullard 12AU7" exactly does it have? Actually, the answer doesn't really matter b/c basically all of Mullard 12AU7/ecc82/M--/ types have a sound signature opposite of what you're describing.So either the preamp design itself is at fault, or the Mullard tubes may be going "bad" or are super microphonic. I would try some Herbie tube dampers on the tubes b/c I can't quite think of other tubes that will sound LESS "hyperdetailed" than the Mullards..
