The JJ KT77 definitely has the JJ family sound, but IMHO is by far their best offering yet--- I simply don't think that their KT88 and EL34 tubes ( and Groove's VERY minor variants of them) are high definition; quite the contrary, they seem to roll of any splash in the treble and soften hard edges in a system; this is not a good thing in most cases as it contradicts the very definition of "fidelity" (trueness to input signal)BUT, in the right amp and system a whole synergy thing could be created. YMMV, right? Anyway, I do like the KT77 and as I am WAY too poor to own any old stock KT77s, they work great for me... if the QC issues can be resolved it will get a solid 'A" grade from me, and dethrone the SED, Winged C Svetlanas of as my favorite modern EL34. I imagine that the JJ KT77 benefits tremendously from its' beam tetrode heritage; all my favorite modern tubes are beamies; it seems like manufacturers run into trouble with pentodes, although some of the smaller ones like JJ EL84 are pretty nice. Just my opinion--- next up I'm saving $ for a set of the new Groove tubes reissue of the dual halo Mullard EL34. I really like Grooves' 12AX7M Mullard copy... so here's hoping!
