...most if not all "fat bottle" 6CA7s are beam tetrodes. Every one I've seen (all US mfg) has the typical beam forming plates. However, since the 6CA7 crosses to the european EL34, untypically for an audio beam tetrode, the beam forming plates are brought out to a separate pin instead of being tied internally to the cathode. This keeps pinout consistent with the EL34. I haven't seen any new mfg fat bottle 6CA7s but from the description, these too must be beam tetrodes.

Ostensibly, the 6CA7 and EL34 are completely compatible to the point that many pentode EL34s are marked 6CA7/EL34. I've found that the two behave slightly differently from each other all else equal and wouldn't mix them in a PP output stage except in an emergency. I think there are subtle sonic differences too. Maybe less ssubtle differences in geetar apps.
