abrasive blaster from S.S. White.It uses baking soda (or similiar) and is the about the same thing the dentist uses on your teeth, and the guy who etches glass uses.
The US military uses them to remove corrosion and such from electrical contacts.
In the absence of that I'd use scotchbrite as a last resort and a pencil eraser as a first resort.
