...for both nice static aesthetics and bright, visible cathodes. Another "bright" 5AR4 is the USA made small envelope GE. Both of these USA versions of the 5AR4 are every bit as good as the fabled Mullard/Amperex versions (IMO of course) but lack a bit of the mystique and so are also less expensive as NOS examples.
