Re: Bias settings for KT-88 in VTL amps that normally use 6550C.

Having asked Luke Manley this exact question for VTL monoblocks that use 6550C tubes about six weeks ago, he said that you can use KT-88 tubes at the same bias settings as for the 6550C tubes. He did, however, recommend only using the Svetlana (now Winged C) KT-88 since -- in his opinion -- the Winged C was the only current production KT-88 that lived up to its data sheet electrical parameters.
That being said, there are now probably other current production KT-88 tubes out there that will meet their data sheet electrical parameters -- if you buy them from a knowledgable dealer who knows how to properly test and match current production audio power tubes, such as Jim McShane or Kevin Deal (there are others, but both Jim and Kevin do an excellent job with power tubes, in addition to input tubes).

Be careful however, and always keep a set of the original VTL tubes on hand. If you ever have to send your amp back into the factory, VTL states that they reserve the right not to service the amp UNLESS it has VTL tubes in it.
