Regardless of how old the tubes are, buy at least one extra set. Try the new set after a year or so of operation. If the sound changes for the better when replacing the "old" tubes, and you think the change is worth the cost, then switch the tubes. If there is no change or the change is insubstantial, continue to use the old tubes for a few more months and test again.
