Yes-- you are totally right. I was speaking mainly of Mullard EL34s; with power tubes they decline rapidly after a certain point. Whether that sudden death occurs at the same usage hour-- it doesn't-- was more my point. Not a great point, either. I think I vastly diluted my 1st post on this subject, to which you had a most amusing and knowing response, with my second post, the response to Jimmy. I concede much of what Jimmy says. There are too many exceptions and variations to set down the kind of sweeping "laws" I was making as "true" statements. And I'm no tube scholar or elec engineer or even close, so....I just meant that buying NOS is no sweeping guarantee of "the best" or at least "the best choice" IMHO.
