Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

I have a Modwright 9.0 PS (power supply) with cryo'ed Tungsol 5687 dual triodes for the Modwright Sony 999ES cd/dvd player. I've read here that the 5687 is a warm full-bodied tube (which the Tungsols are to a point). I definitely like a full bodied presentation but I'm looking for more clarity and extension in the top end without giving up any fullness in the mids or lows. (a more dynamic tube to liven things up) Is there any such tube you can recommend; and where can I get such a tube? Or, with the 5687 am I pretty much stuck with a warm full presentation and somewhat rolled off highs? A fellow Modwright Sony owner recommended the GE JAN 7044 (his favorite) and Sylvania Gold Brand GB-5687 over the cryo'ed Tung Sols. I may have a chance to get a couple Sylvania 7044s or a couple good used RCA or GE 5687. Thanks for your help
