I've been suspicious since the time the dealer left a voice-mail telling me I had bought the wrong type of tubes and that the only way the amp would provide trouble-free service was to put in $800.00 CAD worth of ARC tubes. When I picked up the amp after telling him thanks but no thanks he even showed me how the "proper" ARC tube had a tighter fit and that the pins were, therefore, larger. As it turns out he used an EH tube that ARC has never used in its VT-100.The second tech just called back a few hours after I left him the amp today telling me the reason I had problems with one of the four pots while trying to bias the amp was fixed by changing two resistors and added very quickly that the first guy was right: the problem was with the tubes and not the sockets.
I'm heading to the mirror right now to see if I have "sucker" written across my forehead.
Well I'm picking up the amp tomorrow and will see what can be done.
Right now I can only say that transistors are great devices!
