I owned a First Sound Presence Deluxe II which I thought was an outstanding preamp with stunning resolution and imaging. I rolled Siemens&Halske 6922, Siemens&Halske 7308, Amperex 6922 PQ USA white label, and Philips 6922 SQ. I found the Amperex to offer just the right balance with a touch of midrange bloom. I found the Siemens to be too clinical for my taste, but they sure are accurate and linear.Unfortunately, having tried all these tubes, I never found one that mitigated the slight hardness the FS provided in the upper mids. I wish I had tried some Mullards and Brimars.
