Re: Genuine Telefunken E88CC/E188CC should be easy to spot

I've never seen an EL34 Telefunken "fake" that could fool anyone who has EVER seen an RFT EL34. The others, not so easy. Unfortunately, many, many East German E88CC WITH the "<>" molded into the base exist. Where do you suppose some of West German tooling wound up? Also many East German <> base ECC83s are around-- I suspect this is why some folks simply cannot understand why others LOVE Telefunken-- they have never HEARD real TELEs. The ECC83 are easy to spot as the paint is a beige, off-white, non-chalky paint. Antique Electronic Supply received TEN THOUSAND of these in 1992 after the Wall came down. For over two years anyone could get NOS "Telefunken" ECC83 for $59. It is NOT AT ALL easy to spot East German SHIT E88CC, unless you have been selling and collecting Telefunken E88CC for 25+ years. (I haven't; I own none. I don't think even the real ones are all that great--- certainly no better than the SQ 1962 Philips you sell for much less$!)I had Andy at Vintage Tube Services show me in person his variety of fakes and then the real thing. He had ordered 144 E88CC in one batch among many which were SO bad he has them in his basement to this day. They start out fairly quiet and get noisy FAST. Also upwards of 50% are microphonic. I won't go into the details at length since many will think this is crackpot conspiracy fake Tele BS anyway, but the molded glass diamond is very fuzzy, on many if you cut a small section of one of the ends of the pins you will see it is vey thin gold over steel, etc etc. Believe me, they are very very common and fool many "seasoned" audiophiles (and dealers too).
