"pop" heard when muting Audio Research PH3

I've been quite happy with my PH3 which I bought off Audiogon last March. However, as of late I've noticed a "pop" that can be heard through the speakers when I flip the muting switch back to "operate".

I took the bottom cover off the other day and sprayed ProGold liberally on both switches. Problem persists...

The pop is only heard on the right channel and it is sometimes accompanied by a "rushing" sound.

This unit is immaculate, mint and it has very low hours. I wonder what's going on here. A bad cap? those are not exactly cheap ones..

Another possibility is a bad switch. I had thought these were good for 1 million operations or so, mil-spec.

I can always use the muting switch on my preamp and leave the PH3 constantly in "operate" mode...

thanks in advance,

crooner
