Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Correction:

It was inmate Hahax who wrote that. I just quoted him.

However, it does make sense. Pay particular attention to this phrase:

"depending on the source material not the speaker design"

Personally, I like a big 'ol soundstage for orchestral and big band recordings, solo grand piano and such, and something smaller for string trio or a solo flute or clarinet or such. To a very large extent, whether or not this can be accomplished in a home listening space is dependent upon the recording venue and the microphone techniques used. In other words, "the source material". After that, the listening space and the speaker design will, or will not, or "somewhat", enable that recorded sound to be reproduced to create a "believable" illusion.
