Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

You aren't wrong

But these are the types of challenging rooms, we in the Bay Area have to work with.

Readers obviously aren't directly interested in a $7000 speaker, such as the Totem Forest Signature, but they pepper me with questions about alternatives, and want to know about the environments our FS has been placed.

It's one thing, just to use the FS in my 15x18 room, but in order to discern more about this product (or any speaker), it is mandatory, that we bring it to a variety of rooms, use it with a multitude of electronics and cables.

Above, we keep everything constant, with the only change being the swapping of the Totem FS for the Element Fire. In my room, the results are one way. But in other rooms, said results may not be the same.

My friend Donnie is right. When anyone talks about a speaker, she needs to divulge what the room's characteristics are.

That said, my friends have been pleasantly surprised, at how adaptable the FS has been. You just place them relatively close to each other (withOUT any toe-in, thank goodness), and adjust distance behind the them and the wall. Although lugging the pair is work, we haven't had this much fun in years.

Audiophiles keep bugging me, to review larger speakers. But now that they see some of the rooms we are up against, they understand why those larger speakers won't have much of a chance to succeed or fulfill their potential.
