Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

With All Due Respect ...

I live in Brandon, not far away!
I was the person who suggested using the lead shot in your speakers from another thread.
I would NOT worry one bit about the sand in your speakers.
I can tell you that sand, and lead shot both have a different effect sonically, and I have been known to actually mix the two for the exact sound I wanted.

Though we live in Florida, we have air conditioners.
A/C units take humidity out of the air!
That is why A/C units have drip pans, so the excess water removed from the air has a place to go!

I have been adding sand to speakers I have built and bought for years here in Florida, and NEVER corroded, or compromised any part of any of my speakers.

I was unaware of Von Schweikerts "new recommendation" to add sand.
They had been suggesting lead shot,,AFAIK ?

But, I added sand AND lead shot to MY VR 4 Jr's because that what sounded best to me.

I wound up, after countless hours of experimentation with 13 lbs total lead shot/sand mix.

I used 8lbs sand, and 5 lbs lead shot, mixed together.

No worries here!
