That's a fine list of guitarists, for sure. I've seen most of the ones you mentioned. I particularly liked Barre, saw Tull during the Passion Play tour.Early Santana I thought to be quite good, he's a bit of a sell-out now. John McLaughlin seriously tore up the strings when I saw him in Cali. circa 1974. He could be the *fastest* I've ever seen. Or maybe Al DiMeola. I got to see them together, along with Paco DeLucia, when they originally toured way back when.
Ry Cooder has to be one of the tastiest players around, I saw him with Little Village about 10 years ago, what a show!
I also really like Andy Latimer of Camel, such sweet tone and phrasing!
Recently, Sonny Landreth has been at the top of my list - NOBODY (IMHO) plays a better slide guitar. Nobody.
However, Danny Gatton will always hold a special place in my heart and memories - I used to catch him at the Twist & Shout and Tornado Alley right here in Montgomery County. Cover was almost always less than $5.00. And, you could stand within 3 ft. of him as he sat on that stool just rippin' lick after improvised lick. Have you ever seen the video of him finger pickin' with a bar towel draped over the neck? Incredible! To this day he's still THE BEST I EVER SAW.
