and that's not to say I like all musicians, but believe it or not, I have found good ones, compelling ones, in every genre I've tried, and I've tried most genres. Grew up with rock, veered into folk and counnry, then eventually got heavily into classical. Lots of my exploration has been driven by non-commercial radio. A college station near me used to have a show late at night with the heaviest of metal, death metal, black metal, all that stuff. I knew nothing about it and expected to dislike it. But some of it was actually good. And rap has never been a problem for me. I thought The Message by Grandmaster Flash some 25 years ago was stunning, compelling protest music, and the whole genre has been familiar ground to me ever since.
