but very well constructed and orchestrated, including thrilling writing for the soloist. "Ultimately ungreat" is simply not true -- and I'm just speaking of the Concerto. The Caprices? Stand 'em next to Bach, but don't "compare" them to Bach. They each have a different agenda, musically, in terms of providing "great music for solo violin".
