Much better, thanks; just had to get it out of my system.I, too, sometimes wonder about the degree of some German(ic) type of mental or psychological romanticism in this Eicher guy; but mostly I forgive him everything, thanks to the types you just mentioned that he also sponsors (and you could add all the Gismontis, Stankos, Bleys, Motians, and let's be nice and say Jarretts as well, who grace our lives with their extraordinary creativity and musicianship), his very generous and artist-driven issue policy, and the very good sound he has always managed to get produced (he's not always the man behind it) from day one of the ECM history.
But at the very least this company represents something that's an increasingly and soon also extremely rare phenomenon: artistic integrity of the highest order and a unflinchingly artist-oriented approach to music business. Maybe Winter & Winter do something comparable (in all of these terms) but I am not sure how many others out there actually might.
We'll enjoy their results.
