RE: Power Cables

I can only try to answer based on my own experience and setup, but I find that heavier gauge such as 10 AWG enhances the fullness and slam of the bass as well as adds more body to images. I stress that for amp or power conditioner primarily, though I have found it affects preamps as well. For sources such as phonostages, DACs, CD players, tuners, or turntables, lower gauge in the 12-13 AWG range can usually suffice.

Having said that, all the other factors beyond gauge including type of copper, connectors, architecture, and dielectric all impact the sound. If you check out my system page, you'll see that I use various cords. For power conditioner and amp, I use PS Audio AC-5 cables. I use Furutech FP-S032N cables for my CD transport and tuner, but different connectors. I use Monosaudio pure coppers on one and Neotech connectors on the other and yes, there is a difference in sound with the Monosaudio being a bit warmer than the Neotechs. For my DAC, I use a Wireworld Electra 7, preamp has an AQ Thunder, and power plant for my tube buffer has an AQ Monsoon. The reason I specify each component's cable is that this is the configuration where I achieve the best sound from each component. If I swapped them around, as I've done previously, I would lose a little something or possibly gain something I don't want. Took me a lot of time and going through different cords to get here.

On the other end of the spectrum, the AQ cables are a bit punchier, so I've had to be careful where to place them. They can accentuate the highs, so if your component does that, you need to be aware of that, but they are very detailed as well. I find the more mellow Furutech works better on digital, though I do find the Electra 7 works very well and is better on my DAC than an AQ NRG-4. The AC-5s are also a bit warmer, probably in between the AQ cables and the Furutechs. Bottom line is that some experimentation will be necessary as you evaluate what fits best for your individual electronics. Hope this helps and good luck.
