The Kimber 4TC and 8TC cables are a great, safe, baseline that work wonderfully in every system I've heard. You can't go wrong with these and they'll give you a good taste of what's possible with decent cables.Anti-cables (http://www.anticables.com/) also seem to be the darling of the day.
However, if you want to play for very little money and feel relatively handy, try the DIY route. Home Depot HD-14 cables (do a search in this forum for details) and plenum-grade (i.e., teflon insulated) solid-core CAT5 network cables make wonderful speaker cables for not much money at all.
