I have a somewhat bright system myself. A couple years ago I tried the HD-14 recipe with Cardas spades. But rather than one 14ge run per leg, I used 2 runs per leg. Yes, it was a big fat monster, but it was a pleasant sound. Rounded things nicely. Several months ago I toyed with them and reduced them to 1 run per leg. I lost the nice round character. I wish I had left them alone. But for DIY speaker cable, there isn't much cheaper than the HD-14.
