...did away with cashiers about a year ago. All self-checkout.
The point of service system is easy to operate but most people have trouble with it, and since skip scanning is a problem, the store now has a team of employees standing by at the self-checkouts to a) help customers work the POS system, and b) to prevent skip-scanning.
Lowes wanted self checkout so it wouldn't have to pay cashiers and in effect it's paying them anyway.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
